“Darkness can only be scattered by light. Hatred can only be conquered by love.”
– St. John Paul II

To many, “evangelization” sounds like a scary and complicated thing, but there are ways to evangelize that are simple yet powerful.

On Kresta in the Afternoon Al Kresta interviewed Steve Dawson, founder of St. Paul Street Evangelization. Steve shared how to take little steps to begin bringing the Catholic Faith to others.

The ministry is designed to train and equip everyday Catholics for evangelization. Although it began just four years ago, there are already 200 teams around the world. While most of the teams are in the United States, you’ll also find them in Canada, Honduras, the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, England, Sweden, Japan and the Philippines.

In his new book Catholic Street Evangelization: Stories of Conversion and Witness Steve shares stories of the lives that have been touched by Christ through this ministry.

On the radio program he related a story in which he offered a Miraculous Medal to a waitress. She graciously accepted, saying that her boyfriend is Catholic. This gave Steve the opening to ask if she ever considered joining the Church. The waitress said she had but that she doesn’t agree with all of its teachings, including its teaching on abortion. Steve and his friends at the table shared a couple thoughts with her on the beauty of human life from the moment of conception.

Steve figured he’d never see her again, but on another occasion visiting the restaurant  she recognized him and said that the day he gave her the medal she had found out she was pregnant and was considering an abortion. She said she knew that God sent Steve to her that day, and she chose to keep her baby.

Even if you don’t feel called right now to join the St. Paul Street Evangelization, consider ways you can stretch yourself in sharing the Catholic Faith with others.

This episode of Kresta in the Afternoon aired at 4 pm Eastern on Monday, February 1, 2016.
