“The soul hungers for God, and nothing but God can satiate it. Therefore He came to dwell on earth and assumed a Body in order that this Body might become the Food of our souls.” – St. John Vianney
On Christ is the Answer, Fr. John Riccardo discussed proper reception of Holy Communion. Fr. John talked about the options of receiving in the hand or on the tongue. But what he strived to emphasize as the most important preparation for Holy Communion is the condition of our heart.
He said we should be mindful that what the Lord’s really looking at is our heart, rather than our tongue or our hand. Fr. John asked, “And is my heart ready to receive the Lord?”
We may be so focused on the way other Catholics receive Jesus that we forget to evaluate ourselves, considering if our own heart is properly disposed.
Are we holding grudges? When a particular person comes up in conversation are we quick to mention their faults? What about making our opinion our god? Do we feel compelled to tell others how they aren’t handling certain situations “right,” as we see it?
Next week we commemorate the institution of the Holy Eucharist. This is the perfect time to reflect and challenge our own disposition of heart. Let’s examine our conscience and shine light on any of the hidden dark spots in our life that incline us toward judging others.
This episode of Christ is the Answer aired at 10 am Eastern on Thursday, February 25, 2016.
