“Abortion kills twice. It kills the body of the baby and it kills the conscience of the mother. Abortion is profoundly anti-women. Three quarters of its victims are women: Half the babies and all the mothers.”
~ Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta
This Friday, January 22nd, marks the 43rd anniversary of the Roe v. Wade U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion nationwide throughout all nine months of pregnancy. It is a day that the USCCB (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops) and the GIRM (General Instruction of the Roman Missal) call for prayer for the legal protection of unborn children.
As individuals, we are called to observe this day through the penitential practices of prayer, fasting and/or giving alms. Another way to take part is through participating in special events to observe the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Call your local diocese or parish to find out what events might be taking place in your area.
Many will be attending the March for Life this Friday in Washington, D.C., and the Walk for Life West Coast this Saturday in San Francisco, CA.
In conjunction with EWTN (Eternal Word Television Network), we are blessed to bring you special live coverage of these events on Friday, January 22nd, beginning at 8 am Eastern, and the afternoon of Saturday, January 23rd, beginning at 2 pm Eastern.
Take some time this week to thank God for the gift of your own life and consider how you can help our world celebrate and respect all human life, from conception to natural death.
“I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Choose life, then, that you and your descendants may live” (Deuteronomy 30:19).
