Sarah Kroger is a Nashville-based, Catholic worship leader and songwriter. She has released three albums, your time (2011), hallelujah is our song (2013) and bloom (2019), preceding her highly anticipated 4th album ‘light’.
With parents involved in worship ministry, Kroger’s love for music was sparked at a young age but the impact of bullying and her struggle with anxiety and shyness hid her musical gift for years. Everything changed when she met Jesus in an intimate encounter through worship at a youth conference; “Worship became my language with God,” she explains. “It allowed me to communicate with the Lord in a way I hadn’t experienced before, there was something about it that opened my heart.” Realizing that music was a gift she desired to give back to the Lord, Kroger began exploring worship leading from then on.
Her courage grew along the way and opened up an exciting journey of passionately leading worship for events around the world, drawing people from a variety of cultures and church backgrounds under the banner of Jesus for the past ten years. The artist’s passion is to create a safe and prayerful space through her music in which people can encounter the heart of God in a profound way.
Kroger described her experience with new album ‘Light’ as “eye opening”. With it being her first album released through a label, she got to experience new facets of the Christian music community. Whereas her previous albums were crafted alongside Catholic writers, ‘Light’ got her collaborating with mainly protestant writers. The kindness, love and conversations shared through the whole process intertwined the experience of unity and vulnerability at the center of this project. The album explores our self-awareness and relationship with God. It’s about understanding what leads us to the darkness and accepting the vulnerability of standing in the Light, where we get exposed and purified.
With singles ‘Standing In Your Light’, ‘Belovedness’, ‘Monument’, ‘A Thousand Thank Yous’ and ‘Unbroken Family’, Kroger introduces a soundscape that mixes honesty with courage, pointing to the album’s encouragement of continually staying in relationship with the Lord. As a contemporary worship leader in the Catholic Church, Kroger gives a new language to people’s relationship with Jesus – ‘Light’ is an inspiration to keep saying yes to vulnerability, intimacy and honesty.
Each year The Vigil Project collaborates with new and known Catholic musicians around the world to create music for every moment of the Catholic journey. Following the Church’s liturgical calendar, they share new music, host events for parish communities, and provide music leaders with resources for worship.
The Vigil Project's dream is to keep giving the Church more... more music for every moment of our Catholic journey.
