Lenten Tenebrae Service with Music (Blessed Trinity Catholic Church – Buffalo)

April 8, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The St. John Paul II Schola Cantorum, directed by Steve Quebral, will present a Lenten Tenebrae Service at Blessed Trinity Church, 317 Leroy Avenue, Buffalo, on Friday, April 8th at 7:00 pm. This adaptation of the Liturgy of Tenebrae (meaning ‘darkness’ or ‘shadows’) includes seven readings relating the story of Jesus’ passion and death. After each reading, a candle is extinguished followed by a prayer and sung response. The darkness gradually increases to symbolize the coming darkness of Jesus’ death. Choral works by Tallis, Byrd, Croce, Haydn, Farrant, Palestrina and others will be performed by the Schola. Join us for this beautiful and inspiring Lenten service. For more information, follow them on Facebook and Instagram @JP2Schola.

The St. John Paul II Schola Cantorum is an “a cappella” choir dedicated to preserving, promoting and performing sacred choral works from the great treasury of music of the Catholic Church. Their repertoire ranges from Gregorian Chant to masterpieces of sacred polyphony from the Middle Ages to modern times.
