Red Mass (St. Joseph Cathedral – Buffalo)
October 1 @ 12:10 pm - 1:10 pm
The St. Thomas More Guild of Western New York cordially invites area lawyers, judges, public officials, and legal professionals of all faiths to attend the annual Red Mass to invoke God’s blessing and guidance in the administration of justice. Most Rev. Edward Bernard Scharfenberger, Bishop of Albany and Apostolic Administrator of the Buffalo Diocese, will be our principal celebrant and homilist. Hon. Tracey A. Bannister, New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Fourth Department, will offer judicial remarks following the conclusion of Mass.
Named for the color of the vestments worn by the celebrants, the Red Mass dates back to the 13th Century France. The custom was adopted by the English Courts in 1310. Its first celebration in the United States was in New York City in 1928.
The Red Mass will also be live streamed at: http://youtube.com/SaintJosephCathedral/.
